FMD Software Providers

Pharmacies, hospitals and wholesalers (‘end-users’) must create an electronic connection to the Irish Medicines Verification System (IMVS) via the Internet. They may do this using their existing dispensing and stock management software systems or standalone FMD software solutions developed internally or sourced from external vendors. IMVO works directly with the providers of these solutions (and internal software developers in wholesalers and hospitals if required) to provide them with the software development kit (SDK) and support they need to create an interface between their solution and the IMVS.

IMVO onboarding process for FMD Software Providers

All software providers who want to connect their solutions to the IMVS must complete the IMVO onboarding process for software providers. There are three steps in this process:

  1. The software provider is asked to complete a form to provide us with details about their organisation and the solution that is being developed to connect to the IMVS.
  2. IMVO then completes a legitimacy check of the software provider to ensure that it is an appropriate organisation to be provided with the SDK.
  3. In order to connect their systems to the IMVS production environment, each software provider has to carry out specific self-certification tests on their solutions in the IMVS quality environment. A test book is made available to the software provider and they are required to run the tests using their FMD solution and provide evidence of the results to IMVO.

Support for FMD Software Providers

FMD Software Providers have access to full technical support from Solidsoft Reply via an online portal and service desk which operates on a 12 x 6 basis.

IMVO also maintains regular contact with FMD Software Providers via email, webinars and face to face meetings to update them on progress with the IMVS, in particular to give them advanced notice of upcoming releases of the IMVS (content and timing).

FMD Software Providers

  • All software providers who have completed IMVO’s certification tests have been asked if they wish to have their details published on the IMVO website. The list provided includes those who have indicated that this is acceptable.
  • IMVO’s certification tests for FMD Software Providers are designed to confirm their solution is correctly connected to the IMVS. They do not assess in any way the interfaces that will be provided to end-users or any other features or functionality or how user-friendly the software is.
  • Other than confirm that it connects correctly to the IMVS (on the basis of having passed IMVO’s certification tests), IMVO cannot warrant that any solution will meet the specific needs of any end-user.
  • It is a matter for end-users to assure themselves that any FMD solution they buy for the purpose of verifying and decommissioning medicines meets their specific workplace requirements.
